Why containers? There are many reasons and we will be adding them over time. But some of them are: quick delivery, mobility, significantly lower price (up to three times less), easy maintenance and more.
Are you a competition to "traditional builders"? No. These are two different products. As a matter of fact, they are so different that we have been approached by builders to complement their solutions. Our solutions are easy to move - you can sell your investment in our product - or even take it with you. You got yourself a customised art studio that you love but you are moving to another house or city? Take it with you!
Wait, customised? You can do that? Yes, we can. Not only we can do that, we are actually competing on some special projects. But shhhh... We are going to publish more information on these soon.
Laws and regulations? Excellent question. We can write a whole article on this. Long story short, in ACT we have very good laws for this. And installation part price will vary depending on design and possible exemptions.
Is it true this is a healthier option than re-purposed containers? Very likely. These are for-purpose built container houses. This means they never had toxic lead paint, never transported any toxic chemicals and contain no structural surprises as a consequence of spending 5-7 years on shipping containers in salty conditions and possible damages. This is a big topic and we are planning to make an article about it. But at this stage just consider the price - the cost of a container itself is a smallest part - in fact fittings, insulation, double glazed windows, bathroom, kitchen, toilets, walls, floors, etc and labour are major costs. Even if you build it yourself, the final price would be less than 10% (or less than 5% if using paid help) different between these two options. It is either your health at stake or health of people you sell it to. It is simply not worth it. Even if you decide to do it all yourself, we would strongly suggest you NOT to use shipping containers that were used previously for delivery purposes.
ACT or Australia? Australia, of course. We are familiarising ourselves with ACT laws first due to local exposure, but we can and we will deliver anywhere in Australia (if possible). We started speaking with prospective clients in Hobart and Darwin even before we published our webpage!
We meet Habitable Room requirements! According to the "Building Code of Australia" a Habitable Room is: "A room used for normal domestic activities and
--> Includes a bedroom, living room, lounge room, music room, television room, kitchen, dining room, sewing room, study, playroom, family room, home theatre, and sunroom; but, --> Excludes a bathroom, laundry, water closet, pantry, walk-in wardrobe, corridor, hallway, lobby, photographic darkroom, clothes drying room, and other spaces of a specialised nature occupied neither frequently nor for extended periods." Be careful about cheap alternatives - they are most expensive! Many products on Australian market cannot be legalised and you may end up be forced to remove it. Always check minimal indoor height, not just outdoor height. CozyContainer houses built to be a studio or a granny flat meet these requirements. We keep our price lower based on our relationships, not by cutting corners or breaking the law.
I have many more questions! Ask anytime using our contact form or call us. We already anticipate a lot of questions and are working on sourcing right answers for you. Some facts, although known to us, will be "tested" with our showroom container houses as they get delivered and installed. This is why some information will have to wait till the end of July. But we will be adding information online almost every day, so visit us soon!
